Ever feel like the last guy in the party. You want to be fashionably late, but sometimes you are too late. You know the situation...everyones already passed out, the DJ has went home, the only liquor left is peppermint schnapps, and the host has turned on the lights, that's the situation I found myself in with The Cove. The 2010 Academy Award winner for best documentary. The reason why I have been putting off seeing this movie is because I feel about dolphins being slaughtered the same way I feel about rape...I know its an evil that exists in the world, but I don't necessarily want to watch it on a Saturday night. However, the movie is a must see for any activist. The movie centers more on a guerrilla crew of activists trying to get footage of the killing of the dolphins and the opposition they receive from the government and fisherman, than the actual killing itself. It should be noted that the movie takes great pains to point out that it is not a Japanese custom to kill and eat dolphins, it is a very select few that adhere to this practice. It makes you realize that money and government corrupts and distorts wherever they are at. However, this movie is a definitely the M. Night Shyamalan of documentaries (except it is actually a good movie) meaning the last 5% of the movie is definitely the star of the show. It is a tearjerker for any vegan or animal lover. The cove is worthy of the hype, and hopefully will be a something that will change this practice from continuing to happen.

Movie Review Day
What a great weekend he said sarcastically. It is raning in my beautiful East Tennessee and I am terribly sick today. I have a sore throat that feels like I ate a burrito made of razorblades, sandpaper, and diet coke. So I am going to chill out and have a steady diet of Amy's No-Chicken Noodle Soup and Fishermans Friend. But I have decided to take this day to watch (or rewatch) some documentaries on netflix. Movie reviews on these to follow.

Welcome friends
I am starting this blog as a way to chronicle my return to issues that used to be very dear to me. In 2001, I was a young vegan anarchist ready to take on the world. However, over the course of ten years, I slowly stopped these ideals. This was due to many factors.....lost of spirtuality, treating my body like a garbage dump, depression, mounting student loans, and assimilation into the system. All of these things led me to be overweight, broke, unhappy, and being at a lost for who I am. Hopefully through the assistance of my loving wife, and an overall desire to change myself (and thus be an effective change agent in the world) I can be the person I want to be. This blog will hold me accountable to continue down the path of positive change. This blog will talk about many things including: Activism, Social Work, Veganism, Economics, Weight loss, Music, Movies, Books, Religion, Politics, Self-improvement and everything else. Hope you enjoy.
